Curriculum
Now more than ever, researchers are confirming that children do their most important learning before the age of five. That's why, in addition to lots of love and attention, what we do at West Shore Child Care Center is based upon early childhood developmentally appropriate practice, the Ohio Infant and Toddler Guidelines, and the ODE approved Early Learning Content Standards.
Our guiding principle is to help your child master the skills needed to succeed in school and in life — social-emotional as well as cognitive proficiency. Whether you're looking for a nurturing start for your infant or toddler, a preschool or an engaging after-school experience, you'll find a well-rounded program here.
The Ohio Infant and Toddler guidelines instruct our teachers ensuring that all children, birth to three, have responsive, loving and respectful care. As a result of that care, your children will be ready for both school and life. There are 1,892 days from the time babies are born until they enter school. This 1,892 day journey is remarkable, complex and far reaching. Those of us at WSCCC know how important this journey is. We know how your children are cared for affects who they will become.
The Early Learning Content Standards serve as the framework for designing and implementing meaningful curricula and intentional learning experiences within the preschool program. It describes the methods that teachers use to organize the space and materials in the classroom, manage class time, and interact with the children. The curriculum for a child will include goals for the whole group, as well as goals that address an individual child’s needs. As teachers make adaptations to help children participate and learn, these adaptations are reflected in their curriculum plan.
WSCCC's Before and After School program provides engaging and challenging activities that promote the development of academic, social, and personal skills.
We strive to maintain an encouraging, cooperative, supportive, and structured environment that emphasizes participation and collaboration rather than competition. We involve the students in the planning, operation and implementation of activities and
link our after school activities to the school day.
