West Shore
    CHILD
Care Center

West Shore's school-age Program Director, Annette Bristol, was awarded 'School-age Child Care Provider of the Year' in 2000 by the Cleveland chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Annette is the teacher for our KindeRichment department serving children who are in either morning or afternoon kindergarten elsewhere both before and after school for a weekly fee.  Full-day care is provided during school holidays (except for six employee holidays - see calendar) for a small additional fee.  Annette's goal is to fulfill the department's name and provide a enriching yet relaxed environment that complements children's formal school studies.  The kindergarteners are joined by first through fifth graders at the end of the day.  Annette has no more than twelve kindergarteners at one time.  She is joined by two other staff persons when the numbers increase.  Our maximum number of school-age children is 36, maintaining a 12:1 ratio at all times.

Temporarily our gymnasium is the school age classroom.  Small group activities are centered around tables or on the floor.  Children might be busily weaving on a loom, shaping clay, making three-dimensional books, or creating 'artifacts' based upon the current historical study for the monthly parent event.  The day is a balance between teacher-directed and child-initiated play.  Play in this department involves building with blocks, legos, with housekeeping toys, etc., and reenacting events and people in history, writing and performing in class dramas, developing photographs in the sun, and a myriad of other learning adventures.

Rocky River school buses take children to school and will bring them back to West Shore after school.  Parents of children outside of Rocky River must make their own arrangements for transportation to and from West Shore and school.  Parents who are residents of Rocky River and work early morning hours may drop off their children as early as 6:30 a.m.
