West Shore Child Care Center is dedicated to providing quality child care. Currently the center is enrolled in Step Up to Quality, starting as a pilot program in 2006 through to the present maintaining a One Star rating.
All staff working directly with children are required to attend 10 hours worth of Step Up to Quality-approved child development training every year.
For infant and toddler staff, the required Ohio Infant and Toddler Guidleline Modules include Physical Health, Emotional, Social, Motor, Language and Cognitive Development. Once completed, the Best Practices Series is available, including the following subjects: Observation of Infants and Toddlers; Understanding Infant/Toddler Temperament; Lesson Planning for Infants/Toddlers; Supporting and Guiding Infant/Toddler Behaviour; Cultural Diversity/Sensitive Infant/Toddler Care.
The preschool deparment Step Up to Quality approved trainings are based upon the Ohio Department of Education's Early Learning Content Standards beginning with an overview called Building Blocks and expanding upon Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Child Growth and Developement, Family and Community Relations, Health, Safety and Nutrition, Observation & Assessment.
The school age program Step Up to Quality approved trainings cover such topics as The Nuts and Bolts of Afterschool Care, All About Health, Safety and Nutrition, How to Create Quality Afterschool Spaces, Understanding School-age Children, Supporting Healthy Relationships, Can You Paint Like Michelangelo, and Global Art.
