Staff Profile

West Shore has a low rate of staff turnover for the field of child care. A core group, approximately 50% of the 21 staff members, has been employed at West Shore for five or more years. West Shore is committed to the retention and the advancement of its excellent employees. Our Center offers health insurance to employees who work 30 hours a week or more, as well as vacation and personal time. Our wages are very competitive with other child care centers in the area, while keeping tuition affordable for working parents.

Part of our commitment to quality early childhood education is our enrollment in Step Up to Quality. All staff members working directly with children are required to take 10 in-service hours of approved child development training. In addition to those 10 hours, all of our staff are required to take initial and renewal classes in First Aid, Communicable Disease Recognition, Infant-Child CPR, and Child Abuse Recognition. West Shore pays for all ongoing training.

The minimum requirement for employment is a Certificate of Training from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services requiring 45 classroom hours of in-service training earned within the first three years of employment and a minimum of 10 hours each year thereafter.
WSCCC is enrolled in the T.E.A.C.H. OHIO scholarship program available for early childhood professionals who want to earn a CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential or Associate of Applied Science Degree in early childhood education or child development.

Our director and 5 of our 20 employees have 4 year degrees including the assistant director. Two staff members have experience working with special needs children, five staff members have at least one associates degree, two staff members are working on their Early Childhood Education Associates degree, two have an Early Childhood CDA, and one has an Associates degree in child psychology. Four staff members are currently enrolled in college.
